This past month has been a fantastic month for football in Pontyclun Primary School. Here is a short round up of a month that has has seen Mr. Llewellyn with short finger nails and very hoarse.The boys have become Urdd regional champions, represented the region in the national championships in Aberystwyth, and narrowly missed out on the semi finals in the New Directions Tournament and the Cardiff City Tournament.
The girls have also become Urdd regional champions, represented the region in the national championship in Aberystwyth coming (all wales) runners up after loosing via a penalty shoot out in the final. This week the girls reached the semi finals in the New Directions Tournament, loosing 1-0 to last years champions. The tournament involved 93 schools and was played to a very high standard. In the last month the girls team has played 22 matches, scored 45 goals and conceded 4 goals, they have been tremendous sports in victory and defeat and have represented the school, village and region admirably. Their consistency easily puts them in the top 2 best school teams in Wales this year.
As coach of both teams I would like to thank all of the children who have trained hard and played so well this year. All of our players have shown an excellent attitude towards the game and a superb team spirit, it really has been a pleasure to coach these children. I would also like to thank the wonderful support of the parents who have given of their time to help with transport, and been there to witness all of the recent highs and lows. I hope that the children continue to train and work hard on their skill levels, as we have a great deal of talent in Pontyclun. Keep going boys and girls, the premiership awaits...
