Rugby Tournament Success

Yesterday the boys rugby squad travelled to Hawthorn to take part in a rugby tournament. All of the schools in Taf took part in the knockout tournament. Amazingly, the boys made it to the semi-final before coming up against an extremely strong Cilfynydd team who beat them to reach the final. This result, and the boys attitude towards the game bodes well for the rest of the season - well done boys.

The County Cricket Finals

Thursday 16th June was the highlight in this years school's cricket calendar. Having made it through the regional finals our school's cricket team lined up at Miskin Cricket club to take on the best 10 teams in Mid Glamorgan. This is the third consecutive year that we have made it to this stage, and the standard was as high as ever. The boys played amazingly well and produced their best cricket of the season so far. Our school team came a very respectable third, in our group of 5 teams. With a number of matches left this season we still have a great deal to look forward to. If you would like to play cricket come along to training every Thursday evening at Miskin Cricket Club 4-5pm. Well done to all the boys who played yesterday, you represented the school fantastically well. To see photographs of our season so far click on the cricket picture to the right.

Football Success

This past month has been a fantastic month for football in Pontyclun Primary School. Here is a short round up of a month that has has seen Mr. Llewellyn with short finger nails and very hoarse.

The boys have become Urdd regional champions, represented the region in the national championships in Aberystwyth, and narrowly missed out on the semi finals in the New Directions Tournament and the Cardiff City Tournament.

The girls have also become Urdd regional champions, represented the region in the national championship in Aberystwyth coming (all wales) runners up after loosing via a penalty shoot out in the final. This week the girls reached the semi finals in the New Directions Tournament, loosing 1-0 to last years champions. The tournament involved 93 schools and was played to a very high standard. In the last month the girls team has played 22 matches, scored 45 goals and conceded 4 goals, they have been tremendous sports in victory and defeat and have represented the school, village and region admirably. Their consistency easily puts them in the top 2 best school teams in Wales this year.

As coach of both teams I would like to thank all of the children who have trained hard and played so well this year. All of our players have shown an excellent attitude towards the game and a superb team spirit, it really has been a pleasure to coach these children. I would also like to thank the wonderful support of the parents who have given of their time to help with transport, and been there to witness all of the recent highs and lows. I hope that the children continue to train and work hard on their skill levels, as we have a great deal of talent in Pontyclun. Keep going boys and girls, the premiership awaits...

These medals were really hard to get at Aberystwyth.

Our "Roving Reporters" from Year 6 have recently sent a full report on the season into the Pontypridd and Llantrisant Observer, it should be shown over the next week or two.

Pontyclun Primary School - Boys and Girls' Primary School Champions

Today was a fantastic sporting day for the children at Pontyclun Primary School. We became the boys and girls, Mid-Glamorgan Football champions for the second consecutive year. We took four strong teams to the University Of Glamorgan Playing Fields and were amazed at the football produced by all teams. The girls Rovers team made the semi finals, the United team came out champions after wining the final against Cwmgarw of the Cynon Valley 2-0. The Boys Rovers team (below) were just as impressive with a narrow loss, three draws and one win, they narrowly missed out on the semi finals after coming third in their group. The boys United team were magnificent all day and topped their group before wining the semi final 1-0 and the final against Castellau on penalties. Although nobody likes to win a tournament on penalties all present said that the best teams won both tournaments. We all eagerly look forward to the National Competitions at Aberystwyth, where we will be representing Mid Glamorgan against all of the other regional champions. With such a large amount of children competing the help and support of parents was essential, may I thank both the children for their excellent behaviour and the parents for their support, good luck to both teams in Aberytwyth. Today some of our players created a musical tribute to all four teams - as they are all champions. To see it click movies on the right hand side or click below:

Pontyclun School Cheer On the Bluebirds

Due to our ongoing work with Cardiff City's Football In The Community Scheme, we were given 50 tickets for their recent match with Nottingham Forrest. The children from years 5 and 6 had a fantastic time and were a credit to the school. Josh, Katie and Tom had their poems in the match day program and one lucky member of our school even had the opportunity to "score from the corner" in order to win £900. Unfortunately he was unsuccessful but he did come very close. May I thank Gary Wilmot, CCFC liaison officer and the other members of staff who came along with us and gave up their Saturday afternoon to take the children to the match. Here are a few memories of the day.
